A new year is upon us. I always take this time to look back on the past year and set goals for the coming year. This year was so good in a lot of ways and had lots of change. In February we moved, I started this blog in May, and my husband switched jobs in August. 2017 brought new friendships and a deeper understanding of the person I am. I feel more confident in who I am. Who am I? I am plus-sized Suzy-homemaker, retro loving, Disney girl. One of my big goals for 2018 is to be a better homemaker. That is such a broad goal though so I am going to break that down and write out my homemaking goals.
2018 Homemaking Goals
I don’t make resolutions because they are just made to be broken. I make S.M.A.R.T. goals. Goals need to be Specific and simple, Measurable and meaningful, Achievable, Reasonable, and Time bound. These are my 2018 homemaking goals.
Learn and make my husband’s favorite dishes that his mom makes. These recipes include pumpkin rolls, cranberry-apple sauce, and her fruit salad. This year we didn’t go to her house for Thanksgiving and he really missed her cranberry sauce. Plus, his mom is aging and not really into cooking and baking liked she used to be.
Cake Decorating. I have always toyed with cake decorating and my attempts have been laughable. One of my new, dear friends is a cake decorating expert and I am so blessed to be able to learn from her. By the end of 2018, I would like to be able to: smoothly frost a cake, frost a shaped cake with icing tips, and learn to 8 different icing tips without it looking like a 8 year did it.
Make a Binder Cookbook. I had one and it broke. I would like to redo one and make it very organized. I kept copies of recipes I loved and notes about changes I made to the recipes to make it perfect to me.
With sewing, I am great at making circle skirts but am need lots of work on other items. I would like to do 12 smaller projects this year that work on perfecting the basics like sewing a straight line, cutting straighter, and increasing my confidence.
I do love a clean home. I don’t always like cleaning. One thing I lack is a cleaning schedule. While there are several ideas online, I have not found one that works specifically for me and my home.
Part of my problem is a lack of organization in several areas like the kitchen and closets. In areas where I am super organized, it is easy to keep to a schedule. Reorganizing the kitchen to make it more efficient is very important to me this year. I will do one kitchen area a month and make each area super efficient.
I want to start a herb garden. To do this I need containers, seeds, potting soil, and a small table to get started. I think having fresh herbs will enhance my cooking a lot.
So those are my goals. What are your goals for 2018 when it comes to making your home a better place? Let me know in the comments!
