What kind of person are you striving to be? I am striving to have the heart of the Proverbs 31 Woman. To help me do this I am diving into God’s Word and learning more about the qualities that made her so blessed by God and favored by her husband.
The Proverbs 31 Woman is known for her generosity. In Proverbs 31:20 it says that, “She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.” You might be thinking well I just don’t have extra money to donate to causes and the needy. The passage says she extends her hands, not her pocketbook. I am not saying that money wasn’t or shouldn’t be given to those in need. The concept is being willing to extend your hand to those in need. If you have a heart to help. you will figure out a way to help. Here are 7 ways to give generously when you don’t have a lot of money.
7 Ways to Give Generously
Become a Big Brother/Big Sister. So many kids are growing up single family homes. Be an extra adult a child can look up to. If you don’t want to join Big Brothers/Big Sisters ask around your church for a single mom who might like the company for her kids.
Donate your extra clothes to shelters. Decide how many clothes you need and donate the rest.
Coupon for food and toiletry donations. I have heard that female hygiene items are a HUGE need in shelters. If you can’t buy them out right, learn how to coupon and get close to free ones to donate.
Use your talents to help others. If you are a doctor, dentist, crafter, baker, cook, or anything else use your gift to help others. Volunteer your time at a free clinic, craft items for women’s shelter, bake meals for the hurting family down the street or in your church. Ask God to show you how he could use your talents to help someone in need.
Open your eyes. So many time we pass by needy people and don’t even realize they are needy. Maybe they need a smile, a nice word, a listening ear or Jesus.
Use your voice to spread awareness. Maybe the cause you are passionate about doesn’t get much publicity. Write about it, tell others, and educate others about your cause. Human trafficking is a huge problem that really doesn’t get much coverage.
Join with friends to help. If you can’t afford something by yourself, get together with a friend to make a dinner for a family in need. Fill shoebox for Operation Christmas Child together.
It is not what is given that is important, what is important is the giving! Do you have a heart that loves to give? The only way children are going to see giving as a good things is if it is modeled through their parents.
